So, last Thursday (another reason why I haven't posted since last week...) at 5am the USPS called me and said my chicks had arrived. I went and picked them up and here are the little fuzzy bottoms. There were only 17...there were suppose to be 25. I put a call in and we are suppose to receive the rest this coming Thursday. The yellow ones are the cornish x hens and they will live for 8 weeks and then be put in the freezer. They are a hybrid breed and are meant to gain weight fast for the purpose of butchering. The question keeps coming up as to whether or not Todd and I will actually do the butchering...his answer for now is yes. I have said repeatedly that I want nothing to do with it until they look like what I could buy them at the store like...then I will package them up. So, we'll see what happens. The red ones are Rhode Island Reds and the striped ones are Americauna's or Easter Eggers. They lay blue and green eggs. We aren't sure what the yellow ones with the red on their heads are.

So cute...she was just getting a little drink!

We aren't holding the yellow ones...we don't want to bond with them. We have even seperated them from the other birds so that they don't interact with our "layers".

This is Patrick. I didn't ever post a picture of him, even though we've had him for a couple of months. He is a pure holland lop and the soon to be daddy of elphaba's litter. We let him run with the goats all day long and he LOVES it. It's so cute to see this little white ball of fur hopping around through the hay. The goats don't mind him at all and everyone seems very happy. He sleeps in their house with them when it's hot in the afternoon. At night he goes back into his cage. We aren't ready to leave him out full time!

He is so snuggly. I love to sit and hold him. Elphie is nothing like him. She is very arnory and was that way even before the pregnancy...she probably won't be sticking around. Once her babies are here and older we will probably sell her and keep a couple of her babies!
