Please HELP!!

So, Emma turns 1 next week (I can't hardly believe it!) and the little monster hasn't even rolled over officially on her own yet. So, not only that, but she doesn't crawl or walk (when she does walk, she doesn't bend her knees). So...I've had several concerned motherly type women tell me that I MUST get her into some physical therapy ASAP so that she can strengthen her muscles and not be delayed or have learning disabilites. So...I'm throwing this question out there to all of you moms, grandmas, aunts, friends, etc. Should I call my peditrician who just a week ago saw Emma and wasn't concerned about all of this and ask her to refer us to a physical therapist anyway, or not worry about it right now and let Em do things on her own time?
By the way, I will pick a random comment by Thursday and send that person a little gift...so all of you lurkers and blog stalkers (Grandma VW, Sherry, Kathy, Dad, the list could go on...you know who you are!) get registered and start leaving comments!
(Thanks in advance for your advice on this situation!)

Hummmmmm..That is interesting. I'm thinking though that if your doctor doesn't seem concerned about it you should get a second opinion. If that doctor says it's no big deal then I would just try my best to not compare her to other babies. I know how hard that is because we all do it but every kid is just totally different. Plus, if she's already said her first word at her age she seems to be developing just fine. Jack didn't start talking until he was about 17 months old. I feel for you though. We all just want our kids to be totally perfect and it's so hard when you see things that make you nervous. Good luck!

I would say trust your pediatrician over well meaning people that don't really know what they are talking about, that is why doctors get paid the big bucks. Kids develop differently and some people seem to expect every kid to be the same. If you are really worried about it, I would wait 1-3 months and then call the pediatrician if things haven't changed. Good luck!

I would just call a ddrc or an early childhood intervention. They will come out and test Emma and tell you want they think. I'm getting a call from Maya's ddrc and I'll ask if they have the # for out there. You don't need the pediatrician doesn't have to know about it. Call if you need more

I think that Brielle is on the money with her advice. I would seek a second opinion, compare the responses, and then go with your gut feelings. I don't see, however, how physical therapy would hurt. All they will do is teach you little exercise games to do together at home. You could also look into a mom-and-me gymnastic class. All-in-all I believe that every child develops at different rates, but when YOU start to feel something is wrong that is when it is time to do something about it. Trust your intuition. Don't be afraid to question your doctor, they do make mistakes. If I hadn't gotten a second opinion about Dash's ears he would still be on his 7th month of antibiotics.

Tiff,
You did EVERYTHING in YOUR OWN time as well. This is just a chip off the ole block. The ideas presented before me are good ones...you be the judge! I LOVE YOU!!

Thanks Ladies for your excellent advice, both here and the ones I got on email. I am going to have her tested by an "at home" physical therapist. This can be a combination of reasons why she isn't moving yet so they will be able to evaluate those reasons. I'll keep you updated!

You're a good mommy. :) An evaluation is the best way to go - that way you'll eliminate the unknown as to whether or not she needs intervention. Let us know what they think. Missing you!!! xoxo

No worries! She is a chubby baby and they say that Chubby babies are the happiest. I do think that since you are second uessing everything you should get a second opinion just to make sure. Hallie is also a chubby baby and can't crawl, roll over, or walk. They are just going to take their sweet time and fo it all whenever they want to.

We love you guys!

Love Aubrie

okay so if this is how I have to get people to leave a comment on my blog by giving away prizes, I'll do it more often! The winner of the prize for this post is................................................................................................................................................................................................................Aubrie!!! (This drawing was done at random, a slip of paper pulled out of the jar by Emma...it then went into her mouth and was a little hard to read, but it said Aubrie! So Aubs, email me your address and I'll send ya a little gift!)
Thank you all for your comments!
