Laundry Advice Needed!

Alright to you laundry wiz's, I have had a problem since we moved to New Mexico. I can not seem to get the musty stinky smell out of my towels and dishrags. I've tried drying them longer to make sure they are dry, I've tried leaving them laying out after the dryer to make sure they are aired out...nothing seems to work. I started putting a capful of pinesol in my wash with the soap to help get the smell out but honestly, who wants to get out of the shower fresh and clean, only to smell like pinesol when they are dry? (okay, so Todd probably wouldn't care, but I do!!!) So, any other advice on how to solve this towel dilemna? Most times I can only use a towel one time before I have to wash it because of the smell...I will send a thank you gift to the person who solves this problem for me!!! :)

Jen is the Laundry Queen in my book. When we go visit I always take a few things for her to launder out! I would ask her.

My laundry room is out in my garage and it is terribly hot so if I leave my clothes in the washer for longer than five minutes they get stinky. I have found that putting a few tablespoons of baking soda (I think you're only supposed to put in like 1 tbsp but if a little works good then alot should work even better...right?!) it works just great for me so try it and let me know

This is something that requires a fresh start. First, what kind of laundry detg are you using, I will NOT use anything but Tide with Bleach (I am no environmentalist), Next, use a YUMMY fabric softener. Third, you have to wash towels in HOT water (I know, it's extra money, etc, but it's all that kills the mildew). Then, you have to get them right into the dryer on HIGH until they are done, done, done. And, dryer sheets are a lovely added bonus. I also often add a little lavender oil to my towels in the washer after it starts agitating, it's just my little OCD. And, if that doesn't work, my goodness, you better throw them all out, get a new washer and dryer, and hire that laundry service! We have a good amount of humidity up here and I have REALLY experimented with all of this. And, my towels are not mildewy or musty smelling in the least. I would try the baking soda, it's an odor neutralizer and an all around cure-all. I am a little over the top with laundry, so if all of this is just TMI, skip it and just send me my gift.......

One of my friends told me that she uses Arm & Hammer laundry detergent. I guess it makes your laundry smell good even if you leave it wet in the washer overnight.

Tiffany,
I guess I am blog-stalking. I am Shirline's favorite nephew on the Tefteller side. I live in Springville, UT. I consider myself a laundry wiz. My wife hates laundry. I had this problem in Texas and after we moved back to Utah. My sister-in-law introduced me to SUN Free and Clear liquid detergent. (no color and no dyes.) I also use Pinesol Lemon or one of the other scents. The combo did the trick. Since we have moved to Springville we don't have this problem. It must have been the water in West Jordan and Salt Lake. I still use the SUN detergent. Good luck.
